Vice President Business Development

Roles and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the CEO & President and working closely with the entire team, the VP of Business Development is charged with expanding Workplace Furnishings' business by engaging with new, potential dealer members, with an emphasis on dealerships experiencing growth, whether aligned or non-aligned with a major manufacturer. The successful candidate will have the ability to present Workplace Furnishings value proposition, such as financial benefits of membership, as well as tools and innovative programs.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced sales professional to bring his/her unique set of skills and relationships to a dynamic and growing company. The ideal candidate has a strong background and demonstrated experience in sales and business development in a B2B and/or professional services setting, particularly working with senior level decisionmakers. He/she will have a unique ability to build relationships and develop networks, along with highly developed account management skills. He/she should be interested about how individuals and teams perform at their highest levels, and eager to offer solutions to help individuals and teams work more efficiently and effectively. Workplace Furnishings is seeking a confident, resourceful and self-initiating team player with the ability to thrive in a fast paced, multi-pronged work environment where each individual contributor is expected to drive new business opportunities forward while also working collaboratively to achieve shared goals. He/she will be expected to manage clients independently, make important decisions about sales approach and network development while also leveraging the strengths of the Workplace Furnishings team to deliver the high-quality advantages of membership that makes up the core of Workplace Furnishings' reputation.

Specific duties and responsibilities include:

  • Seek out and source new clients by developing networks and independently identifying and developing relevant resources for sales and business development.
  • Promote and sell Workplace Furnishings (WPF) membership program and offering the advantages of WPF’s premier buying network.  
  • Collaborate with members of the WPF team to ensure an excellent client experience across all client interactions from initial membership orientation through renewed membership year over year
  • Work collaboratively with the CEO & President to develop creative outreach strategies to attract and retain clients
  • Work towards & achieve new membership goals for both new dealerships and new manufacturer members
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the contract furniture industry i.e., Leadership, Management or Sales / Design 
  • Demonstrate ability to define and launch innovative, new programs
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Strong presentation skills, both in person and leveraging use of technology
  • Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams
  • Ability to develop and maintain lasting relationships
  • Desire to be highly responsive to client needs  
  • Willing to travel 40-50% of the time
  • Detail oriented
  • Proficient with Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Autonomous, self-starter with the ability to manage time for maximum benefit
  • Motivation for Sales, Sales planning, National account management, Strategic business growth planning, Prospecting skills, Persistence, Presentation Skills
  • Identify market potential by qualifying accounts
  • Initiate sales process by scheduling appointments, making initial presentations, understanding account needs and requirements
  • Close sales by building rapport with potential account; explaining program, service capabilities; overcoming objections and completing membership application
  • Expand sales in existing memberships by introducing new programs, services and participating manufacturers
  • Update member’s knowledge by presenting and developing educational modules within the WPF Learning Academy
  • Enhance organizations reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different programs that will help our members drive sales and grow margins
  • Promote information and usage of WPF marketing materials
  • Coordinate manufacturing members with dealer members to provide sales meetings and vendor presentations
  • Keep WPF team and manufacturing members informed by providing activity reports of all travels and results within our dealer members
  • Recommend changes in services and programs by evaluating results and competitive developments
  • Provide suggestions for enhancing presentations and assist in developing the program for the WPF Annual meeting
  • Maintain relationships with members by organizing and developing company presence at conventions, annual meetings, trade associations and seminars
  • Provide information to dealership members regarding product sourcing within and outside of our current product mix to help drive top line sales
  • Willingness and desire to be flexible in the workplace to provide needed information and services to membership regardless of the time of day and not being confined to the 9-5 paradigm
